Assyrische Kirche der Jungfrau Maria

Sie befindet sich in der Karakurum-Straße im Stadtteil Tarlabaşı von Beyoğlu. Die assyrische Gemeinde erwarb das Grundstück, auf dem die Kirche errichtet wurde, im 19. Jahrhundert. Armenischen Quellen zufolge existierte dort bereits zwischen 1650 und 1780 eine Kirche. Diese wurde am 6. September 1863 wiederaufgebaut und für Gottesdienste eröffnet. Sie diente Armeniern und Assyrern als gemeinsames Gotteshaus. 1870 wurde die Kirche durch einen Brand schwer beschädigt und 1878 umfassend restauriert und renoviert.

Das alte Kirchengebäude wurde 1961 abgerissen und anschließend wiederaufgebaut und im selben Jahr in einer feierlichen Zeremonie für Gottesdienste wiedereröffnet . Es ist ein anmutiges Beispiel für die Steinmetzkunst der Stadt Mardin im Südosten der Türkei. Diese Handwerkskunst zeigt sich besonders deutlich an den verzierten Säulenköpfen. Neben dem Kirchengebäude gibt es einen Anbau mit einer kirchlichen Schule und der Verwaltung.
