A really good combination for Sultanahmet. We explored Hagia Sophia at our own pace and then joined the Blue Mosque group tour, which gave us useful context about the architecture and traditions.
Seeing the two mosques with different visit styles worked very well. First we wandered through Hagia Sophia independently, then the guide gave us more background at the Blue Mosque.
I liked the balance between visiting one place independently and having a guide for the other. The Blue Mosque tour answered several questions we had after seeing Hagia Sophia.
A good choice for a first visit to Istanbul. The guided part at the Blue Mosque added useful cultural context without making the whole experience feel too structured.
