Things to Do in Moda

Moda is one of the most pleasant corners of Kadikoy, loved for its laid-back coastal atmosphere, local cafés, and easy walks by the water. If you want to experience Istanbul from a different angle, away from the busiest historic sights such as Sultanahmet Square or the Grand Bazaar, Moda offers a calmer, more residential side of the city.

Take a Walk Along the Coast

The ideal location in Istanbul to take a stroll and enjoy the waterfront is the Moda Coast. It is almost always lively with people jogging, riding bikes, or simply sitting beneath trees or on benches. That constant local energy is part of its charm. On a summer day, walking along the shoreline with your headphones on can be one of the most peaceful things to do in the city.

Visit the Baris Manco Museum

Besides the shoreline, the Baris Manco Museum is among the best-known attractions in Moda. Baris Manco was a pioneering rock musician in Turkey and remains widely loved. Housed in one of the last palaces in Moda, a Victorian-style building from the 19th century, the museum displays artifacts, costumes, photographs, and other material related to his life and career. If you plan to visit, it is best to check current details on official or updated local sources.

Try Different Cafés and Restaurants

Great places to relax and dine can be found all along Moda Street. One highlight mentioned by many visitors is Yer Café, known for its distinctive and inviting interior. Its atmosphere comes from the artwork on the walls, old furniture, and understated lighting. The menu covers a wide range of options, from Turkish breakfast to dinner, making it an easy stop at almost any time of day.

Where Is Moda in Istanbul?

Moda is located in the Kadikoy district on the Asian side of Istanbul. In practical terms, to reach Moda, you first need to get to Kadikoy. This makes the neighborhood especially convenient to combine with other Asian-side stops, or even with a ferry ride toward places like Maiden's Tower or the Princes' Islands.

How to Get to Moda

The easiest way of going to Kadikoy from the European side of Istanbul is by using Marmaray to reach Ayrilik Cesmesi and then transferring to the M4 Kadikoy–Tavsantepe metro line. From there, Kadikoy is just one stop away. For the latest station and service information, you can also check Metro Istanbul.

Alternatively, you can take a ferry to Kadikoy from Eminonu. Eminonu is easy to reach via the Bagcilar–Kabatas tramway line. Ferries and the metro both leave you at or near Kadikoy Dock, which is the main jumping-off point for exploring the area. For ferry routes and schedules, see Sehir Hatlari.

Once you arrive in Kadikoy, there are two easy ways to continue to Moda. If you are in a walking mood, you can walk for about 20 minutes to reach Moda. If not, you can get on the T3 Kadikoy–Moda tramway line and get off at the Moda Caddesi stop. Both options are enjoyable, depending on whether you prefer a quick ride or a slower look at the neighborhood streets.

Why Visit Moda?

Moda stands out because it combines simple pleasures: sea views, green spaces, neighborhood culture, and a food-and-coffee scene that feels local rather than overly touristic. It is a good choice for travelers who want to slow down and see how Istanbul feels beyond its monumental landmarks. You can come for a short coastal walk, spend time in a museum, or settle into a café and watch the day unfold.

It also works well as part of a broader Istanbul itinerary. After visiting the historic peninsula and famous attractions on the European side, spending a few hours in Moda gives you a different perspective on the city. That contrast is one of the reasons so many visitors remember Kadikoy and Moda fondly.
