Non-Muslims Visiting the Hagia Sophia Mosque

The Hagia Sophia Mosque is open to all tourists, Muslims and non-Muslims alike. However, there are certain rules to follow. For instance, when visiting the Hagia Sophia Mosque, women are expected to cover their heads as it is a religious and sacred place for Muslims. Headscarves are available at the Hagia Sophia Mosque’s entrance. You are allowed to take photos inside the Hagia Sophia Mosque, however, you should not photograph anyone who is praying. During your visit, you are expected to remain silent and avoid disturbing anyone who is praying. Non-Turkish citizens are not allowed to enter the praying area. Visitors can only access the 2nd-floor visiting area.

  • The QR tickets are only shown when you are in close proximity to the entrance of the landmarks;

  • You need an Internet connection on your smartphone to get your QR tickets.

  • Children will be asked to present their valid passports at the entrance of the museums in order to validate their age.

  • All visitors must go through the security check at the entrances.

  • The Hagia Sophia Museum entrance ticket ONLY gives access to the 2nd-floor visitor areas but NOT to the Mosque's prayer areas.

  • Kindly note that due to the limited capacity, there might be long queues.

  • Remember to wear modest clothing (arms and legs covered). Women must cover their hair with a scarf. If you forget to bring your own scarf, you can buy one before you enter. There is no need to remove shoes.

  • The mosque is only open for half a day on the first day of Ramadan and the Sacrifice Festivals.

  • Please note that with this products only entrance tickets are provided. For a guided tour you need to purchase extra.

  • Only Turkish citizens are allowed in the prayer area during prayer times.

  • Please note that restoration work is ongoing at Hagia Sophia, so some areas may be temporarily closed during your visit. Closures may change depending on the work inside.

Stunning blend of architecture and history This is an Amazing architecture with history. It was interesting how the religion identity of this Mosque evolved with different rulers. Some of the views look way better than the pictures. It is a must visit when you are in Istanbul.
