The National Palaces Painting Museum, opened in 2014, is located in the Crown Prince Residence of Dolmabahce Palace. It is an important part of Istanbul’s art scene, with paintings collected from both Turkish and international artists.
The building was originally the Istanbul Art and Sculpture Museum, founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1937. After being renovated from 2010 to 2014, it became a museum for artworks mostly collected from the Ottoman palaces.
