The Hunkar Pavilion was built in the 17th century by Safiye Sultan, the granddaughter of Suleiman the Magnificent, one of the greatest rulers of the Ottoman Empire. She was also the wife of Murat III. The pavilion was made as a resting place for the Sultan and his family when they came to pray at the nearby New Mosque.
There is a special path from the pavilion to the mosque. The walls of the pavilion are decorated with unique tiles, featuring plant designs and writings. In the middle of the pavilion, there is a special area for the queen mother and the Sultan’s servants.
When you enter the Hunkar Pavilion, you will feel like you’ve stepped into another world. The rooms filled with history and beautiful tile work will amaze you. As you enter, you’ll walk on a stone path that gently rises towards the living area. At the entrance, there are small shops that sell handmade goods.
The pavilion has three rooms. The most important room is the Head Room. It is decorated with furniture from the period and beautiful Iznik tiles. The doors, inlaid with pearls, and the engravings on the dome of the main hall are very special. You can also visit one of the rooms that has a nice view of the mosque. The walls have windows that divide the corridor and let in natural light, giving the space a peaceful atmosphere.
