About the Hunkar Pavilion

The Hunkar Pavilion was built in the 17th century by Safiye Sultan, the granddaughter of Suleiman the Magnificent, one of the greatest rulers of the Ottoman Empire. She was also the wife of Murat III. The pavilion was made as a resting place for the Sultan and his family when they came to pray at the nearby New Mosque.

There is a special path from the pavilion to the mosque. The walls of the pavilion are decorated with unique tiles, featuring plant designs and writings. In the middle of the pavilion, there is a special area for the queen mother and the Sultan’s servants.
