Çukurcuma

Cukurcuma antiqiuties are one of the main reasons travelers come to this atmospheric corner of Istanbul. According to a local rumor, after the conquest Fatih Sultan Mehmet performed the first Friday prayer here and said, “Let’s perform Friday prayers in that pit.” Over time, the words for pit and Friday in Turkish were said to merge into Çukurcuma. The district still stands out for its narrow streets, limited sidewalks, and old historic buildings. As you walk around, you can find vintage products, souvenirs, jewelry, plaques, decorative items, and many rare pieces and artifacts.
