Full Description
This tour will start at the University of Istanbul, which was the first university in Turkey. An Islamic Theological Department was opened almost immediately after Mehmet II conquered the city in 1453. You'll continue to the Forum of Theodosius, originally built by Emperor Constantine, and see the remains near Beyazit Square. Your guide will show you all of the points of interest in the Beyzait district, entertain you with stories of unlucky Sultan Mustafa III and tell you about the Byzantine monks of the Myrelaion Monastery. You'll even see the square used for executions in Byzantine Constantinople - gory! Finally, your guide will take you to Haseki, an area filled with amazing mosques, churches, Roman ruins and other historical buildings. You'll have a very interesting morning touring these historic parts of the city.
