Join us on this tour as we walk the ancient Divan Yolu. During the Byzantine period, it was called the "Mese" and was the road from Constantinople to Rome. During Ottoman times, the road got the name Divan Yolu which means the "Road to the Imperial Council" since it led to the Divan, or Imperial Council, at Topkapi Palace.
The start of the Mese was once marked by a grand structure called the "Million". Remains of this structure were found in the 1960s and a smaller stone, called the Million stone, has been re-erected at the same location in Sultanahmet Square. This is where we will start our tour.
From there, we walk on to see some of the Ottoman Sultans' mausoleums, mosques, Roman forums, schools and Byzantine monuments such as Cemberlitas (The Burnt Column) and the remains of the Theodosian Triumphal Arc. Today, the Divan Yolu is the main road visitors take from Sultanahmet Square and the Hippodrome, all the way to the Grand Bazaar.
This tour is only available on Mondays. Please check if pick-up is available for your hotel.
