Mehmet the Conqueror, also known as Mehmet II or Fatih Sultan Mehmet, was the sultan who conquered Constantinople in 1453. He ordered that this mosque be built, hence its name, Fatih Mosque. The complex was huge and included not only a mosque but also religious schools, a library, hospital, market, Turkish baths and tombs. Unfortunately, over the years, parts of the complex have been destroyed due to earthquakes, fires and road construction. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to see and learn about! Join our guided tour and hear about the amazing world of the Ottoman Sultans and the development of Turkish architecture. The area of Fatih, where the mosque complex is located, is also home to many other important landmarks including Roman columns, Byzantine churches, Gothic Cisterns and mosques. Take a stroll with us and see all of these plus the liveliest of Istanbul's street bazaars, Carsamba Pazar.
This tour is only available on Wednesdays. Please check if pick-up is available for your hotel.
