Full Description

Since the early days of the Ottoman Era, there has been a vibrant Jewish community living in Istanbul. After Sultan Mehmet the second conquered the Istanbul, he encouraged immigration to repopulate the city. Most of the immigrants settled near Galata, a quarter on the northern bank of the Golden Horn. On this tour, we will walk around colorful streets of Galata, where you can take great pictures while you’re walking. We will see synagogues, the Jewish Museum, Jewish Apartments, and other Jewish heritage sites. Next, we will be listening to the amazing story of Abraham Kamondo from a magnificent guide. Monday – Friday: Jewish Museum, Ashkenazi Synagogue, Schneidertemple Synagogue, and outer visits to Georgian Synagogue, Neve Shalom Synagogue, Italian Synagogue, Jewish Apartments, Kamondo Buildings.
