Full Description

The Orthodox Church, St. Irene or Holy Peace has been built with the order of l. Constantine over the ruins of a Pagan Temple as the first church of Constantinople. It was the main church until St. Sophia has been built. Due to fires and earthquakes, the church has been renovated several times. After Mehmet, the second has conquested Constantinople the church stayed inside of the Topkapı Palace's walls and he did not destroy it. Only it has been closed for praying and used as arsenal and warehouse. During the last periods of the Ottoman Empire, it has been used as Military Museum. It has been renovated in 2014 and has been began to be used as a museum. But when it is realized that it has nice acoustic, the building became a host for classical music concerts.

I think Istanbul as a musical album. And St Irene is Classical Songs inside of this album. Also it has been used as concert saloon as well.

Is is surprising to see a church inside of Topkapı Palace. According to me Ottomans dominated huge geographies with the respect to other people s religion on their period.
