One Day in Istanbul

A lot of people crossover Istanbul for a really short amount of time because of their travels or depending on their business schedule, they may spend only a day or half a day in Istanbul which we all can agree that it is not enough to cover all the beautiful places in Istanbul. Istanbul is a very big versatile city that has all the elements of nature, history, shops, food, drink and more which are really hard to find in one place, you may have to travel to several destinations to cover them all. In this article allows me to explore the city in a one-day plan to enjoy and use your time efficiently.

Let’s start from the heart of the city, Taksim Square in Beyoğlu. Taksim is the main attraction point of Istanbul because it has a lot of Istanbul symbols. You may take a look at the Republic Statue in the middle of the square and then take the Nostalicigic Tramway toward Galata Tower. The Nostalgic Tramway is a very old restructured in order to keep its beautiful memories in our hearts. After finishing the tramway line, you may take some photos of the old Galata tower or even considering a tour from the inside, its view is spectacular and amazing, it has a 360-degrees view, toward the Bosphorus and the old city as well. it has a small coffee which serves drinks such as tea and coffee with some patisseries too, I hope that you will enjoy your meal with the amazing view.

When you get back to the start point in Taksim Square there is a funicular line that connects Taksim Square with Kabataş seashore. Take the long walk on the beachside until you arrive at the Dolmabahçe Sarayı (Palace). It is a palace located in Beşiktaş near to Kabataş, served as the main administrative center of the Ottoman Empire from 1856 to 1887 and from 1909 to 1922 (Yıldız Palace was used in the interim period). Right now, it is used as a big museum with its big garden, its garden has huge gates which open directly to the sea in order to welcome the guests of the palace. After you finish your tour there, continue walking in that amazing street, the sea is on your left, trees are all over the place and the traffic is in the middle. After you walk for about 20 minutes passing the Yıldız Park you will arrive at Beşiktaş Square, there you will find a very small restaurant name “Midyeci Ahmet” gathering a big crowd into his small tables in the streets selling mussels in different sizes buckets. He is the best in Istanbul selling the mussel with rice and you should consider tasting a small bucket of it.

Continuing our walk about 20 minutes more and you will arrive at Ortaköy Square. It is a very amazing spot for taking spectacular pictures with the Bosphorus view behind. The most famous things in Ortaköy are the small shops that sell Waffle and Kumpir. Their waffle is very mouth-watery and they put different layers of chocolate on top of it with a lot of fruits and nuts. Kumpir is a baked potato or jacket potato that has been baked for eating. When well cooked, a baked potato has a fluffy interior and a crisp skin. It gets served with fillings and condiments such as butter, cheese, sour cream, gravy or even ground meat with some sauces. It is almost impossible to get cross Ortaköy without getting convinced to try one of these because of their amazing display.

After you are done with Ortaköy you can take the D2 bus from there to arrive at Zorlu Center. Zorlu Center is a big shopping mall with a lot of cloth and shoe brands. You can start shopping and having fun between the shops or consider having a meal in one of the restaurants in the food court. Zorlu Center has a lot of events in its big theatre in addition to the Cinema which displays movies all the time! You will never get bored in Zorlu Center and you will finish your small journey there.
