How to Manage Your Time in Istanbul

Being the main city of the most powerful empires in the world for more than 2500 years, Istanbul city has witnessed a lot during the years but luckily, everything is still at its place and people can actually see the history with their own eyes.

As Istanbul city is so big and has a lot of places to visit, natural sights to see, restaurants to try, and activities to do, planning your time might be hard when visiting this city. Thus, we decided to help you by advising you on how to manage your time in Istanbul.

It does not matter what your tour plan is, or what you are going to do in the city, these advices will not change your plans but it will definitely add more fun time to it.

Choosing the right airport:

Istanbul city is supported by two airports. One of them is Sabiha Gokcen and it is located on the Asian side which is usually cheaper than the second one Istanbul new airport that is located on the European side of Istanbul.

If you are planning to stay on the Asian side, it is better to choose Sabiha Gokcen airport because you will be saving time and paying less money than Istanbul airport, while if you are planning to stay on the European side, it is better to choose the Istanbul new airport because it is closer to the European side than Sabiha Gokcen.

In general, not all companies offer flights to Sabiha Gokcen airport so you might end up landing at the new airport and taking a long trip to the Asian side. In this case, it is better to choose one of the following options:

1- ask for a private ride to your destination, you will pay more but save more time than if you use the bus
2- change your hotel to the European side.

Booking hotel at the right area:

Istanbul has a lot of places to visit nearly everywhere this is why you can find hotels all over the place but still, it is better for you to book an hotel around or in the heart os Istanbul because most of the sites are at the heart of the city and even if you are visiting a place out of the heart, you can easily reach it because all kind of transportations are around you.

You can book a hotel at one of the following neighborhoods: Taksim, Beyazit, Sisli, Besiktas, or SultanAhmet area.

In this way, you can save the time that you are going to spend on the road to visit the sites and places at the heart of the city.

Wake up early:

It may be annoying for many people to wake up early during their holidays but when you are spending your holiday in Istanbul it is better for you to wake up early. In this way you can spend more time around the city or walking through its streets.

You do not need to wake up at 6 AM, you can start your day at 9 AM with a delicious Turkish breakfast and then hit the road toward your destination.

Use public transportations:

With 20 million people active in the city on a daily basis, the city is definitely crowded so using a car or a bus may not always be efficient. It is better to use the Metro line, Metrobus line, and Tramvay lines in Istanbul because these transportation ways have their own roads that are not affected by traffic jams and do not worry about losing time using these transportation lines because the public transportations in Istanbul is one of the most connected and most comfortable transportations line in Europe and the world. Thus, you can reach anywhere you want in less time than a taxi or bus in traffic hours.

Istanbul city is considered one of the most preferred destinations for shopping because of its rich market and relatively cheap prices, even for famous luxury brands it is still cheaper than most of European countries, but make sure to keep a day or two at the end of your trip for shopping and do not waste time on shopping during your tours to places and sites. This way you can spend the whole last two days shopping after knowing where to go and what to buy, better than buying something and regretting buying later when you see a more beautiful thing. Believe me, it happens all the time.
